We had a lovely time at our Silk Scarf workshop on Saturday teaching people the Art of Devoré. What a fabulous, friendly group, in a great location with a yummy lunch! It was great way to spend a grey, drizzly January day!
We kicked off the morning with an introduction to devoré, a demo of different techniques and talking through the health and safety (the boring but important part). We then got started with sampling! We bring a selection of our scrap fabric to our workshops, this is a good way for us to use any waste, orders that might have not gone quite right, or practice runs of new colour combinations, all of which are still beautiful in their own right and are perfect for sampling devoré. We allow people to choose their own colours from the sample box as we understand we all have very different taste, some people like to frame and display their samples after the workshop, so we want everybody to like what they're making!
All of the participants created some amazing samples, sometimes using techniques we'd never seen before! It is a great way for people to get used to the devoré paste, learning how much to use, how much heat they need to apply for it to work, and of course practicing different designs for their scarf.
In the afternoon everyone started working on their scarves using the techniques and skills they had learnt in the morning during sampling. Before the workshop, we gave everybody an option of colours for which they would like their scarves to be dyed and we also stitched them all up, this means that at the end of the day everybody leaves with at least 4 samples and a a ready to wear scarf! Such beautiful results were produced and all in all it was a lovely, creative and productive day!
Thank you very much to Millers Yard for having us, and to Bakes for feeding us! If you are interested in attending one of our workshops please get in touch via email. We also run workshops for private groups!
